Toucans

Toucans. Beautiful birds. They live in the tropical forests of South America as well as in Central America. Loss of habitat due to deforestation, and wanton creation of farmlands, especially in the Amazon, are common threats to these birds.

The original painting is painted on 2 pieces of canvas (80cm x 30cm and 80cm x 50cm), Acryl colours. The green, tropical background canvas was painted long ago, some time at the beginning of my canvas career. The whole idea for the painting evolved later on in 2020, when the second canvas (the golden background) was added and those two magnificent birds found their place on and between the two canvases.
The spacing between the green and the gold canvas portrays destruction of the tropical forests; the green canvas representing the forest and the gold canvas representing human modern society.
