Acryl artist. Born in Slovenia. Living in Munich, Germany. Through her artwork, inspired by animals, NATURE, TRAVEL, she wants to bring joy, beauty, and inspire you to see the world in a new light. Many of her paintings have an original story behind them, that inspire deeper appreciation of nature and the world around us, others are ment to brighten up our day and cheer us up. Her body of work is joyful, colourful and diverse, just like her personality.
ABOUT ME
Here’s a short introduction on how I started painting and became an artist:
Hi, my name is Barbara Modic Volk (Barbi) and I create wonderful portraits of animals, nature and life, to bring joy into your life and brighten up your home.
Although I`ve always had a strong creative drive, it took me long time to actually persue my art path. I’ve always enjoyed different forms of art, such as drawing, painting, music, and circus.
“I find artistic expression liberating and I finde that through art, we can escape our everyday reality and immerse ourselves in a world of imagination, let our mind travel to those far away places and be reminded to enjoy life's simple moments."
As a child, I was always creative, painting on silk, glass, and sketching portraits of my family at age 12. During my teenage years, I drew many portraits using graphite pencils, and at 21, I tried working with color pencils and black coal.
It was in 2010 when I first discovered my love for painting on canvas. The black-white canvas painting with two seagulls was a wedding gift for a close family member. That’s when my journey as a painter began.
In February 2013, on Valentine’s Day, I had MY FIRST SOLO EXHIBITION OF MY WORK in a charming restaurant in Ljubljana’s old city center (the capital city of Slovenia). I had MY SECOND EXHIBITION a year later. After that, by art path slowed down a little bit, due to a couple of events happening in my personal life, but in late 2018, I decided to come back and immerse myself in my art. In 2022, I finally decided to take a leap and give myself a go with abstract painting, which was something I always wanted to try.
Somehow I never ended up going to a fine arts academy. Instead, I pursued a degree in biology, which I absolutely loved. Perhaps that’s why my deep appreciation for NATURE ended up being my primary source of inspiration for my paintings.
My second source is TRAVEL and this wonderful world of ours in all it`s colours. Colours. Colors excite me. Colours are magical. I paint with brushes, but pellet knives are my favorite. My paintings always go beyond a few layers of paint, and every painting has a story and/or a message behind it.
Irrespective of whether it is through nature portraits or abstract paintings, and I am constantly pushing the boundaries of creativity, exploring new techniques, mediums, and styles.
